Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

What is Susu?

Susu is a mobile app that digitizes rotating savings circles. Groups contribute and take turns receiving the full amount.

How do I create a circle?

Download the app, create an account, and tap “Create Circle.” Set the amount, frequency, and max members, then invite people.

How do I join an existing circle?

Enter an invite code or click the organizer’s link. Once approved, you can start contributing.

Is there a cost to use Susu?

Susu is free to download and create circles. A flat platform fee applies per period (integrated or manual). Processing fees are separate. See Pricing for details.

Payments & Payouts

What payment methods are accepted?

Bank transfers (ACH, SEPA, Bacs), debit/credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Bank transfers have the lowest fees.

How do I receive my payout?

Payouts go to your linked bank account via Stripe. You’ll complete KYC and connect a bank account before your first payout.

How long does a payout take?

Usually 2–3 business days. First-time recipients may have a 30-day security hold.

What happens if someone doesn’t pay?

We send reminders. If a payment is missed, the organizer is notified. Auto-pay reduces missed payments.

Do payout recipients pay any fees?

No. Recipients receive the full payout. Members cover the platform fee and processing fees as part of contributions.

Can anyone donate to my Community Fund?

Yes. Share your donation link. Donors can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or bank transfer—no app needed.

What are the fees for Community Fund?

No Susu platform fee. Stripe processing only: cards 2.9% + $0.30, bank transfers 0.8% capped at $5. No extra recurring fee.

Security

Is my money safe?

Yes. Payments are processed securely through Stripe. We never have direct access to your money.

What is KYC verification?

KYC confirms your identity before payouts. It’s required by regulation and handled through Stripe.

How is my personal information protected?

We use bank-level encryption and never sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Circle Management

What’s the difference between circle types?

Rotating circles pay members in turns. Target circles save toward a goal. Community Funds are ongoing pools.

Can I leave a circle?

You can request to leave. Approval depends on your payment status and circle rules.

What happens if a circle is cancelled?

Collected contributions are refunded proportionally. The organizer initiates cancellation and refunds are automatic.

How do I get my donation link?

Open your Community Fund and tap “Share Donation Link.” Share it anywhere—anyone can donate.

What is a co-organizer?

A trusted member who helps manage a Community Fund. They can view/remove members but can’t change settings or allocate funds.

Who can see donations to my Community Fund?

All members can see donations and the fund balance. Transparency is built in.

Referrals & Rewards

How do I earn referral rewards?

Share your referral link. When a friend qualifies, you earn $15. Find the link in Profile → Invite Friends.

What qualifies as a valid referral?

They must use your link, be new, not refer you back, and reach $100 in payouts within 12 months.

When do I receive my $15 referral bonus?

After your friend reaches $100 in total payouts. The bonus is paid to your connected Stripe account.

How do I share my referral link?

Go to Profile → Invite Friends. Copy or share the link via text, email, WhatsApp, or social media.

Is there a limit to referrals?

No. Each qualified referral earns $15.

Why hasn’t my referral bonus been paid yet?

Your friend hasn’t qualified yet. You can track progress in Profile → Invite Friends.

Do I pay taxes on referral bonuses?

Referral bonuses may be taxable. You may receive a 1099 if you exceed reporting thresholds.

Taxes & Legal

Do I have to pay taxes on rotating circle payouts?

Usually no. These are pooled savings you contributed to. Rules can vary—ask a tax professional.

Do I pay taxes on Community Fund support?

Often treated as gifts, not income. Rules vary by country.

Can I deduct my contributions on my taxes?

No. JoinSusu is not a charity, so contributions aren’t tax-deductible.

Will I receive a 1099 form?

Possibly, if payouts exceed reporting thresholds. A 1099-K is reporting, not necessarily tax owed.

What do I do if I get a 1099-K?

Report it and note it as a return of savings or gifts received. Consult a tax professional if needed.

How are EU users taxed?

Similar principles apply, but gift tax rules vary by country.

Does the government track my money?

Processors report transactions above thresholds. Reporting doesn’t automatically mean taxation.

Is Susu legal?

Yes. ROSCAs are legal and widely practiced. Susu provides a secure, modern platform.
